ROLE:             PLANETARY HEALTH GARDENING & SITE WORKS

The Planetary Health Centre is located in a Parkland with extensive areas of garden which we are developing as a demonstration site. These gardens are an opportunity to inspire and encourage Nature Connection and to share information and skills with the community. They include gardens for biodiversity as well as edible gardens. The Centre is also retrofitting buildings and landscaping parts of the site. This role provides an opportunity to gain skills in permaculture and regenerative gardening practices (including propagation and seed saving) and to be upskilled in a range of plant uses. It is also an opportunity to assist in the further development of the site as a Planetary Health Centre.

BASIC TASKS:

– Assisting Planetary Health Team in creating demonstration gardens

– Maintaining gardens (watering, weeding, feeding, pruning)

– Seed saving and propagation

– Managing compost systems

– Assistance with landscaping and clearing areas of site

– Assistance with retrofitting existing structures

 

SKILLS NEEDED:

Some gardening knowledge and experience with using garden tools.

Landscaping and practical retrofitting skills.

 

TIME COMMITMENT:                                                                      DURATION OF POSITION:

2-4 hours per week or as required for working bees             Ongoing
