Solutions Story-telling in Springwood
23rd September
10:30am-2:30pm
at the Blue Mountains Theatre and Community Hub, 106-108 Macquarie Rd, Springwood
This workshop introduces practices from Solutions Journalism and Constructive Journalism, global movements that are changing the way news is reported.
Rejecting sensationalism and choosing not to fuel conflict, Constructive Journalism reports on what people are doing to tackle the wicked problems our times. It applies the rigorous practices of reportage to examine real-life strategies, interrogating their effectiveness, transferability and scalability.
The Planetary Health Initiative is using Solutions Journalism to share strategies local people are using to reduce the dangers posed by climate change. At this critical moment in global history, we are shining a light on the many ways we can drive environmental, social and economic sustainability within our communities.
This workshop provides an introduction to Solutions and Constructive Journalism. Throughout the morning, you will be guided through the process of developing a story concept. If you would like to pitch it for publication on one of the Planetary Health Local News sites, you are invited to come back in the afternoon for the pitch session. If you are interested in writing for us, but need more time to prepare your pitch, we will outline the process for doing that.
This workshop is designed for people with some experience in writing and/or some knowledge or interest in matters relating to planetary health.
If you are ready with a story to pitch for one of our Local News sites, you will have an opportunity to do so. This will be done in a supportive process, structured as an editorial meeting. You will have the opportunity to articulate your story idea and also give constructive feedback in response to each other’s pitches.
