SUMMARY:Art Kintsugi workshop
DESCRIPTION:Kintsugi is a century-old Japanese craft where broken ceramic objects are pieced back together using ancient Urushi lacquer and gold dust based on the philosophy of Wabi Sabi finding beauty in imperfection. The process transforms much loved worn items into a beautifully crafted new piece of art. It is a chance to live a more sustainable way and to rescue objects which would otherwise be discarded. \nIn this 4 hours step by step hands-on workshop\, led by Yoko Kawada\, you will learn the fundamental skill of Art Kintsugi method\, following the principal of traditional Kintsugi utilizing more accessible alternative materials which enable us to complete the process within the class. At the end of the class\, you will take home a piece of your Kintsugi art and skill to start your own repair project at home. \nWe will talk about the history of Kintsugi and philosophy as well as some case study discussions. \nAll tools and materials to use in the workshop are included. \nArt Kintsugi starter kit for your home projects will be available to purchase upon request. \nImportant notes: \n\nThis workshop is for aged over 18 years.\nNot suitable for pregnant person.\nWe will be providing a small piece of ceramic to repair.\nWe will not be repairing own broken items to brought in the workshop.\nMaterial includes resin\, epoxy and gold metal (not 24K gold)\n\nAbout Yoko \nYoko studied interior design in London 1990s. During the time she also traveled extensively around the world which experience has let her to design and create her original range of interior products that narrate each local stories within\, and embrace the surrounding space. \nShe then moved her base in Sydney and set up her art studio where she designed SQUARE+ROUND Washbasin using porcelain tiles imported from Japan which was shortlisted for Etsy Awards in 2016. \nHer works combine elements of handcraft and material technology\, an approach which reflects her cross-cultural background ”Unity of Opposites” wabi & sabi aesthetic\, mathematical perfection\, boldness and elegance\, tradition and innovation\, streamlines and curves….. Square and Round.
