Ponds moderate climate , making your garden warmer in winter and cooler in summer. They also provide water and habitat for multiple species, and are especially important during drought, fire and heatwave.
They are easy to build in a few hours and we have built ponds with the community at the Planetary Health Centre.
On a larger scale ponds are a nature-based solution to mitigate the impact of both flood and drought. Read more research here
Water for Wildlife & How to Build a Pond
On the 21st October we gave a presentation on how to increase Water for Wildlife in your garden & How to Build a Pond. The presentation was followed by actually building a pond together at the Planetary Health Centre. This was a simple in-ground pond that was completed in one afternoon. A range of containers can be used to create ponds if you’re unable to do an in-ground pond. Check out the simple instructions to create a barrel pond in this video.
Turning a Swimming Pool into a Duck Pond
Katoomba local Teya Brooks Pribac and her partner converted their swimming pool to a duck pond and have been delighted at the biodiversity it is supporting.
New Water Play Area and Rejuvenated Pond Opens at Blackheath Soldiers Memorial Park
The newly renovated pond is already attracting increased biodiversity and the water play area is providing cool recreational spaces for the whole family.
