Waterwise Gardening, Healthy Soil, and how to Make Your Own Olla!

23/02/2020 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Think you can’t grow your own food in a drought? Wondering how you can possibly keep your garden healthy and hydrated when there’s water restrictions? Watching your plants wilt in the heat and don’t know what to do?

Join Manu Prigioni and the Farm It Forward team for this interactive and fun workshop, in which you will learn some of the answers to these questions, and so much more! Learn all about smart water management in drought conditions, and how to build and maintain a healthy soil food web using easily obtained local materials, which will increase your soil’s water holding capacity and reduce water usage by up to 80%! The team will also teach you how to easily make a fantastic slow capillary action irrigation vessel called an Olla.

Ollas are an ancient irrigation method, thought to have originated in Northern Africa and still practiced today in several countries, notably India, Iran, Brazil and Burkina Faso. They are the most efficient method of local plant irrigation in drought. You will be taking an Olla home with you and making one for the wonderful Farm It Forward initiative. You can read more about Farm It Forward by following them on Instagram or Facebook.

There will be plenty of time during the workshop and again at the end to ask Manu and the Farm It Forward team all your curly gardening questions!

Your workshop fee includes a $20 donation to Farm It Forward to help the team make enough Ollas to see them through the drought and to continue to grow local, nutrient dense food for the Blue Mountains community.
