Kunchok Gyaltsen: Escape to Freedom
- October 27 @ 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm
- November 24 @ 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm
In 1993 Tibetan Buddhist monk Kunchok Gyaltsen was frustrated living under Chinese rule. He decided to escape, trekking the arduous route from Llasa through the Himalayan mountains, arriving in Dharamsala, India, the exiled home of the Dalai Llama, two weeks later.
It was the beginning of a journey that would eventually bring him to the Blue Mountains, completing the transition from life as a nomad and monk to that of a husband, father and passionate photographer.
Kunchok’s escape to freedom is the theme of the fifth conversation in the Search for Meaning series of six monthly conversations with Blue Mountains residents.
Kunchok will be talking with Phil Voysey, Director of Cultural Connexions, about his journey to Australia and return to Tibet in 2014 and will be showing some photographs of that trip.
