All animals deserve a safe place to be housed and cared for if they are lost/found/injured or displaced. A council pound and shelter should offer temporary and safe housing for vulnerable animals so they can be reunited with their human family or find a new human family to call their own.

๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐น๐ผ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ of the Katoomba shelter has left the animals and local community with no options. Currently, the cost of living crisis, lack of affordable housing, homelessness and risk of homelessness, vet costs and a shortage of vets are all creating unprecedented pressure on all pounds, shelters and volunteer rescue groups.
This is a time when safe and compassionate animal shelter options must continue, not cease. From July 2024 the Blue Mountains City Council needs to assume responsibility for a Blue Mountains animal pound and the local community is calling on RSPCA NSW to โgiftโ the shelter site to Blue Mountains City Council so vitally needed pound and shelter services can resume and continue.
