To urge government to take more urgent action on climate change, Wentworth Falls student Dylan McCarthy has created a Climate Change Petition and is asking the whole community to support it. The petition will be launched by Cr Romola Hollywood at 11am on Wednesday 14 February on the bottom level of the Planetary Health Precinct in the former Katoomba Golf Clubhouse (go down either side of the outside of the building to get to the lower floor).

Australia’s target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 43% below 2005 levels by 2030 is insufficient to prevent irreversible climate change of catastrophic levels. As a country with one of the highest greenhouse gas emission rates per capita, it is Australia’s duty to reduce emissions faster.

The petition asks the House of Representatives to initiate a legislated pledge to reduce Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions to 75% below 2005 levels by 2030, instead of the target for 43%; and to replace the net-zero emissions target of 2050 with a new target of 2040.

Join supporters and sign the petition over morning tea, then help spread the word.

There will be tea, coffee and biscuits. Anyone keen to bring food to share would also be appreciated.

Address for petitions is: PO Box 24, Wentworth Falls, NSW 2782
